Being the bored, technologically savvy narcissist that I am, I was browsing facebook, when an ad caught my eye. It was directed towards those who had just broken up and guaranteed “[you will] get your Ex back”. Alright, break-ups suck, they do. Usually they happen for a reason though, and while one person may desperately wish to cling to the shards of whatever fantasy they imagined themselves in, it’s not a healthy behavior for anyone. In addition—as I strongly doubt that there is one fix all for breakups—it seems most likely to be a scam.
I have to admit that it’s brilliant marketing though. Some poor lovelorn heartbroken angsty idiot checking out his or her former girlfriend’s profile incessantly will see this and give these people whatever they want.
In a world where interpersonal interaction is increasingly accomplished solely through the noiseless flow of electrons and photons moving across the world, I’m forced to stop and wonder: “Will we meet, date, break-up, marry, divorce, and even conceive on line without ever really knowing the other person?”
Probably not, but if you’re single and desperate I guess there’s always eHarmony.
Or porn.
