1. Fun Cubed: Day 1

Today was the first day of the Fun Fun Fun Fest here in Austin. It was incredible. I’m tired so I’ll stick to some highlights. Maybe I’ll post a more comprehensive overvies/review sometime later this week.

    Day 1 Highlights

Small SinsSmall Sins were probably the single most incredible band I saw today (in fact we went to their after party this evening) . They are awesome ironic electro pop from Toronto. Go to the website above (or alternatively to their myspace) and listen to them. Do it now.

Explosions in the Sky—I forgot how much I like these kids. They are amazing. We sat down and just let the music sink into us. Awesome.

Of Montreal—Though some of their new stuff was pretty ridiculous and they played a Purple Rain cover as their penultimate song, you can’t go wrong with the poster children of sarcastic saccharine indie pop.

Okkervil River—These kids are just very, very good and I’m glad I finally got a chance to see them live.

The New Pornographers—Say what you will, you know you love Neko Case as much as I do. She asked for a mattress made of Rice Krispy treats and every indie boy there went crazy trying to find/create one.

I’m tired and tomorrow I gotta go see some more great music (Battles, Mates of State, Cat Power, Ted Leo etc).
