Once again I am suffering from lack of sleep induced madness coupled with a day spent listening to wonderful music, so this is just a short update to highlight some excellent moments from the second day of fun fun fun fest.
I Love You, But I’ve Chosen Darkness—This is possibly the best name for an indie pop band ever. They weren’t super unique or great but they deserve an honorable mention.
Ted Leo And The Pharmacists—They played a show. It was good and dance-ish.
Mates of State—Awesome! Kori Gardner was super preggers (we’re talking late third trimester here) but still rocking it. On the plus side for her, short maternity dresses and oddly comfortable (and ugly) boots are the style du jour in indie fashion these days. You go Jason Hammel! In any case, the show was amazing!
Battles—They were Battles love it, hate it, or don’t understand it.
Diplo—Pretty amazing rendition of Salt ‘N Peppa’s Push It in elcetronic dance form!
Cat Power and Her Dirty Delta Blues—The culmination of two fucking great days of music. This set was amazing for so many reasons. Cat was high on a mixture of steroids and pain killers for a busted eardrum. She fought with the crew and the festival people about everything mainly because she didn’t “have any fucking reverb.” Despite her craziness—or perhaps aided by it—the music was fantastic. This slight, short white woman has the sultry smokey voice of a seventies soul diva. It is incredible.
Alright, I’m out for now.
